NSFAS Application for dates 

The official opening date for NSFAS Online Application web portal has been released. The date set for new applicants to apply online through myNSFAS Student portal is December 2023 to 31 of  January 2024. New Applicant are advice to apply on time with all the needed materials for the online application for the 2024 NSFAS academic year.

Who qualifies for the Nsfas bursary program?

If you are a citizen of South Africa, intend to enrol in or are currently enrolled in a public university or TVET college, and complete the qualifications outlined below, you may be eligible for an NSFAS bursary.

What is needed from students during the Nsfas Application Process

To complete the application process and confirm eligibility, the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) mandates the submission of additional information and verification of supporting documents. Prior to submitting the application, students must fulfil specific requirements, such as confirming the availability of all required information and supporting documents, meeting academic eligibility criteria, providing proof of household income, submitting a certified copy of their South African ID, ensuring the accuracy of personal details, and submitting necessary documentation for disabilities or chronic illnesses, as well as any other relevant supporting documents stipulated by NSFAS.

  1. those who qualify for a SASSA grant, those with impairments, and those whose monthly household income is less than R600,000.
  2. Any university student who began attending before 2018 and whose household earns less than R122 000 annually is eligible.

  4. A completed and signed Vulnerable Child Declaration and Consent Form, available for download here, must be submitted by an applicant who has been identified by the Department of Social Development as a Vulnerable Child.

Documents needed from Applicants when Applying Nsfas

  • Copy of student ID / Birth certificate
  • Copy of parent/s or guardian/ spouse ID
  • Smart card: both sides of the card required
  • Proof of income (where applicable)
  • Persons living with disability (Disability Annexure A form)
  • An applicant who is recognized as a vulnerable child by the Department of Social Development must provide a completed Vulnerable Child Declaration form completed by a social worker
  • An applicant who has indicated that s/he has no family member details and or abridged birth certificate must complete the Declaration: Non-SASSA
