Application for the 2023 academic year is now officially open through the National Student Financial Aid Student (NSFAS). Here are more specifics regarding the student funding application process for the bursary scheme’s recently implemented changes.

Nsfas Open Date 2023

Students looking to apply for financial aid for the 2023 academic year can do so from 1 September to 28 November 2023 using the NSFAS application process.

Who is Eligible To Register NSFAS 

  • every South African national
  • All winners of SASSA grants are eligible for funding
  • applicants whose annual household combined income does not exceed R350 000
  • A disabled person: The total annual household income cannot exceed R600,000.
  • Students whose home income is not more than R122 000 annually began their studies prior to 2023.

Get started by creating a new account.

  • visit NSFAS official site
  • Type in first names (as per ID number)
  • Type in Surname (as per ID number)
  • Type in your ID number (will your username)
  • Type in your own Email address
  • Type in your own Cellphone number
  • Accept terms and conditions Tick the box provided, to allow NSFAS to check the information provided (compulsory)
  • Create a Password, To (protect your account)
  • ID number, Names and Surname is validated against the Department of Home Affairs database. Only valid South African ID information will be accepted

NSFAS Online Application 2023/2024

Are you having issues submitting an NSFAS financing application? Not to worry. Here are instructions on how to submit your NSFAS 2023 application via myNsfas.

How to apply is as follows:

  • Click here: www.nsfas.org
  • Make a myNsfas account by registering.
  • If you already have a myNsfas account, click “log in” when entering the site and complete the form.
  • If you don’t already have a myNsfas account, click “Create account.”
  • Enter your myNsfas login information.
  • Choose “Apply.”
  • Answer the questions that are displayed.
  • Upload the extra paperwork that is required.
  • Choose “Submit”
  • You’ll then receive a reference number for your application.

Applicants for the Nsfas will have the option to pause the process and rejoin it later without starting again.

Applicants for Nsfas bursaries can also submit their applications through WhatsApp, USSD, and the Nsfas mobile app. Applicants will have the option to apply for Nsfas funding, check on the progress of their applications, and withdraw them.

Materials Required for NSFA Registration

  • Mention your email address and home phone number.
  • A copy of your birth certificate or other government-issued identification must be presented.

  • If necessary, a year’s worth of IRP5 from your parents, legal guardians, or spouse, along with proof of your income.
  • If you receive a SASSA grant, you are not required to show proof of your income.

  • A Vulnerable Child Declaration and Consent Form must also be completed and signed by an applicant if the Department of Social Development has designated the applicant as a Vulnerable Child.
