How Do I Apply For A NSFAS Bursary

Create a new myNSFAS account or make changes to an existing one.

Required Documents for NSFAS Applications

The following records must be certified copies and cannot be more than three months old. Your documentation needs to be certified by the South African Police Service or the South African Post Office. If you are under 18 or over 18 but STILL DEPENDENT on your parent’s or guardian’s combined family income, the following also applies:

  • a certified copy of your South African ID card or birth certificate. If you are under 16, you must have a green bar-coded ID or smart ID card.
  • You should present a verified copy of your original birth certificate.
  • IDs for the parents or guardians (death certificate)
  • a certified copy of your most recent transcript or set of test results. (If you’re currently in Grade 12, you don’t have to turn this in.)
  • records from the university’s registrar (if applicable)
  • travel and lodging documentation (if applicable)
  • Download the consent form, complete it, and have each applicant who has declared income sign it.
  • If you have a disability, download and complete the Disability Annexure A Form.

Who Should Apply For NSFAS Funding

  • a citizen of South Africa;
  • Your household’s total annual income is less R350 000;
  • SASSA presented you with a grant;
  • you are applying to a public university to begin your first undergraduate degree, or you are enrolled in a report 191 or National Certificate Vocational programme at a TVET institution;
  • To seek a degree, you wish to enroll in a public university or TVET college;
  • Your household’s annual income is less than R122 000, and you have already registered for college;
  • For NSFAS money to be available for a TVET college, you must have finished Grades 9 and 10; for NSFAS funding to be available for a university, you must have completed Grade 12.

College students enrolled in National Accredited Technical Education Diploma (NATED) N4–N6 programs can anticipate receiving their allowance payments from NSFAS on August 15, 2024.
