It would please you to know that the National Student Financial Scheme (NSFAS) will soon pay you what is owed to you if you are an NSFAS funded student who has been waiting to receive news about your allowance. They have stated the following regarding the handling of funds for the current month. However, it appears that some eligible students have not yet received their allowance as at now, as stated on the bursary program’s social media website. The bursary program responded to a student’s inquiry about the delay by stating that allowances for March 2024 are currently being handled.

According to the NSFAS, the release date for 2024 NSFAS allowances will be March 7, 2024.

Who Can Receive an NSFAS Allowance

  • To be eligible for bursaries, applicants must adhere to the following four standards;
  • every single South African
  • All recipients of SASSA awards are qualified for financing.
  • candidates whose combined household income is under R350 000 annually
    a handicapped individual: The annual income of the household cannot exceed R600,000.
  • students whose home income is not more than R122 000 per year and who began their studies before 2024.

How NSFAS Allowance Will Be Distributed

All students who apply for the 2024 NSFAS Allowance are strongly advised to keep the following information in mind.

  • All students who have been previously accepted for NSFAS funding and registered for relevant courses will start receiving their stipends the week of March 7, 2024.
  • Over the course of ten months, an R15,000 annual allowance will be given. It will total R1500 per month, which will be distributed on the first of each month.
  • After the data has been submitted to the system, students will receive an SMS asking them to update their banking details on the FUNDI system.
  • Each student’s own bank account will receive the amount of the living allowance.
  • For returning students who were confirmed for 2023 and funded for 2024, the course materials will be distributed automatically.
  • New students and returning students who are not supported in 2024 must complete an option form before being granted a learning material allowance. We have taken the following actions in accordance with the policy that states, “A student who is receiving financial assistance from NSFAS for the first time is required to purchase a digital learning device in that year of study if the student is not in possession of a digital learning device already.”
  • This group will have access to the form at Financial Aid Offices (FAO) on all campuses to complete it. To the campus where the student registered, the form can be sent through email.
