How Do I Make A NSFAS Bursary Application

NSFAS Application Required Documents

The next set of documents must be in certified copy form and cannot be older than three months. Neither the South African Post Office nor the South African Police Service may certify your documents. This also holds true if you are under 18 or over 18 but STILL RELY ON THE COMBINED HOUSING INCOME OF YOUR PARENTS OR GOVERNORS:

• your birth certificate or South African identification card, certified. Without a green bar-coded ID or smart ID card, minors under the age of 16 are required to:
• your unaltered birth certificate should be displayed as a certified copy.
• Parental or guardian identification (death certificate)
• a certified copy of your most recent transcript or set of test results. (If you’re currently in Grade 12, you don’t have to turn this in.)

• travel and lodging documentation (if applicable)

NSFAS Bursaries Coverage

NSFAS scholarships at colleges and universities reimburse these expenses.

UNIVERSITY

• Accommodation
• As per the actual costs charged by the university (costs for private accommodation must not exceed costs for university residence)
• Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7 500 per annum
• Living allowance R15, of 000 per annum
• Book allowances R5200 per annum
• Incidental/personal care allowance of R2900 per annum for students in catered residences

TVET

• Accommodation in an urban area is R24,000 per annum
• Accommodation in a peri-urban area is R18,900 per annum
• Accommodation in a rural area is R15,750 per annum
• Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7,350 per annum
• Transport R7000 per annum
• Incidental/personal care allowance R2900 per annum

Who Should Submit an NSFAS Application

• be a Resident of South Africa;
• Your household’s annual combined income is less than R350 000;
• You received a grant from SASSA;
• You are registering for your first undergraduate degree at a public university, a Year 191 or National Certificate Vocational program at a TVET institution, or both;
• You wish to obtain a degree by enrolling in a public university or TVET college;
• You have already registered for college, but your household’s annual income is less than R122 000;
• To be eligible for NSFAS financing to attend a TVET college, you must have finished Grades 9 and 10; to be eligible for NSFAS money to attend a university, you must have completed Grade 12.

NOTICE: Friday, January 21, 2024 has been chosen as the new deadline for NSFAS 2024 applications. Last Friday, January 7, 2024, was the previous cutoff date.
